Mungret St. Pauls 0-17 Pallasgreen 0-10
On Sunday 13 November Mungret St. Pauls saw themselves out against Pallasgreen again. We had a slight advantage having only played the match the week previous and Pallasgreen facing into their third match in three weeks.
A free for Mungret St. Pauls saw Richie christen the scoreboard. Pallasgreen looked strong and began to dominate the first 15 minutes of the match but only managed to build up 3 points in that time with no reply from Mungret St. Pauls. The turning point of the game came when Paudie Kirby could be seen with the sliotar powering up the side and spying Pallasgreens no. 11 coming on the attack built up the speed and showed how a shoulder should be used as the vibrations of his hit must of been felt on the field as it seemed Mungret St. Pauls brought the game to another level, there was no stopping them. The team worked as one and used their strength to pull the score up 6 more points having possibly rattled Pallasgreen who were unable to put any more points in before the half time whistle which saw Mungret St. Pauls 0-7 Pallasgreen 0-3.
The second half had Pallasgreen come out with more attack only to be stopped by the strong backs of Barry O'Grady, Chris Dunford and Eoin Mulcahy with Patrick Begley, Paudie Kirby and Brian Barry powering the sliotar to the other end of the pitch, this half saw Brian Barry pointing a lovely ball. Chris Buckley and captain Eoin O'Doherty had their work cut out setting up scores with Eoin taking his own 2 points. Pallasgreen were trying to close in and managed to bring them 3 points away from Mungret St. Pauls lead, it was not to last long as we came back and with 10 minutes left in the game were brought back to a 6 point difference. A free for Pallasgreen infront of our goals may of seen a change of play only for the strike to be directed straight to the skillful hurley of Conor O'Brien who cleared it.
Pallasgreen managed to break Mungret St. Pauls concentration for a few minutes and popped over 3 points but this is where they were stopped and Mungret St. Pauls brought on fresh legs and added on the last scores of the match to seal the game and sign off on the score board.
The strong wall of Brian Begley, Brendan Giltenane and Richie Burke were hard to break through throughout and were not giving up possession without a fight. Richies free taking was on target notching up 7 points from frees and one from play. Brendan Giltenane chose wisely when to strike for a score putting 2 points to his name, brother Tommy scored his own point but fed striking opportunities to his team mates. Colm Moriarty was a great addition to this match having to sit out the last one he owned his position. It was Brian Tobin who with 3 points from play was having a great game as usual.
Mungret St. Pauls last won this title in 1975. This team are on the up and look forward to taking on the Premier Intermediate in 2017. The strength of the team is each individual player, the strength of the player is the team.
