On Monday 20th June Mungret St.Pauls took on Drom/Broadford in Cappagh in the U12s County Championship final. The game was played in perfect conditions and both sides got up and running from the start. Mungret converted two points from Maria Campbell to settle the side but Drom kept pushing up the field and eventually converted two quick points to get them back in the game. The solid defence line of Zoe Page and Amy Connolly kept the Drom scores to a minimum. The game was played at a ferocious pace with both sides putting in 100%. Two more points from the boot of Campbell from frees before half time saw Mungret lead 0-4 to 0-3 with everything to play for in the second half. A slight breeze favoured Mungret and the girls made the most of it. Ella Mason, Sarah Butler and Ciara Brennan worked incredible hard to mark the Drom forwards and contest every 50/50 ball. Mungret got two more frees which were converted to see the score 0-6 to 0-3 in their favour. Midfield was strongly marshalled by Grace O’Keeffe and Monica Sheehan who worked tirelessly to keep the forwards supplied with great passes. Just when Drom were making a comeback Aoibheann Collins gave a lightning pass to Ciara O’Keeffe who buried the ball in the back of the net and the Mungret girls began to believe that this could be their year. The work rate from Aela Gleeson, Amy Dore Barry and Rachel Guinea kept the dream alive until the final whistle. Another point from Maria Campbell and Ciara O’Keeffe saw the final score finish at Mungret St.Pauls 1-08 Drom/Broadford 0-03. This squad of 28 girls have trained and worked hard all year and all have contributed to this win.
