Our U-10 footballers contested the Limerick Community Games Final last Tuesday evening against Monaleen. It was played at our local pitch on a fine summer’s evening. Monaleen came with a strong team and showed fine displays of speed and skill. Our boys matched them for most of the game but Monaleen just finished the stronger and won out the game by a few scores. On another day, the result could be different. They now go on to represent Limerick in the Munster competition and we wish them the best of luck.
Our own boys have been improving with every game they have played. Leading up to the final, we lost out to Monaleen in our opener but regrouped and defeated Ahane and Caherdavin to reach the semi-final against Fr. Casey’s of Abbeyfeale. The game against Fr. Casey’s was our best display with some excellent well worked scores taken on the night and great defensive work to stop them from scoring.
Throughout the campaign, it was great to see our boys putting the skills of the game on display, from accurate passing and kicking to find players, judging the high balls in the backs and midfield, competing for possession and the forwards ability to receive the ball, turn and take the scores. We know it is disappointing to lose a Final but the players will learn a valuable lesson and be stronger for it. No doubt their parents are proud of the way their boys conducted themselves, their willingness to learn and develop the skills and putting it into good practices on the pitch. Keep it up!
