Congratulations to St. Nessans school who proudly display the U-11 Hurling trophy having beaten Milford 1-4 to 0-3. A match that showcased many talented players from both teams. St. Nessans captain Fintan Fitzgerald accepted the trophy on behalf of his team. The game was played in Old Christians against their arch rivals Milford National School. The game was played in lovely weather. The first half was very close with Mungret up by 1 point. Great attacking play led St Nessan’s to a win. This performance would not have happened without the exceptional defensive play by the goalie who pulled off two massive saves in the second half and excellent defensive work.. This is the first time in many years that the school won the double as these players won the U11 A football final earlier in the school year. It was great to see so many family members from the parish supporting the players.
Many of the U11 players were on the U13A team that beat our close neighbours Ballybrown two weeks ago in the shield final. This again was a close game but once Mungret got on top they ran out comfortable winners.
St. Pauls, Gaelscoil an Ráithín and St. Nessans players represented their schools very well in all their games and we thank the teachers in these schools for their support with promoting camogie, hurling, ladies football and gaelic football with the students throughout the year.
