Mungret St. Pauls 2-12 Bruff 1-6
On Saturday 30 April the intermediate footballers picked up two more points in the county championship with a good win over Bruff at Claughaun. Following a narrow win over Claughaun the previous week they are at the top of the group table with Galbally on four points.
Mungret opened brightly and had the majority of possession in the first quarter from a dominant midfield. However a number of missed chances meant this was not reflected on the scoreboard. The breakthrough came when a quick team move lead to Peter Harrington being taken down by the keeper for a penalty which Denis Giltenane goaled with a neat finish. Three good goal chances had been saved during the half, the halftime lead of 1-7 to 0-4 could well have been much more.
The game turned for Bruff early in the second half when a couple of points and a goal had narrowed the gap to two points with a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-6. Our team responded well and picked up the pace to create a ling series of chances, scoring 1-4 and keeping the opposition scoreless in the final quarter. The second goal was scored by Jack Walsh finishing another good move. Scores from play accounted for 1-12 of the total scored.
