In sport you are never told to accept second best, this was an exception for the first time Mungret St. Pauls are delighted to be runners up as Riverside Oscar ran a fantastic race on Saturday night. He was not expecting to be placed and as a club we were delighted he had brought us to the final as many times he was not destined to get through to the next round. It all came down to luck and the draw on the trap and the hot favourite although having a good trap had a poor start and Riverside Oscar took advantage and kept going.
He was beaten by another near outsider Droopys Roddick who ran for Bruree they won €10,000, with Mungret St. Pauls gladly accepting €5,000.
We, as a club have to acknowledge Noreen and JP McManus for their very generous sponsorship. It is always appreciated all the help Noreen and JP have done with the GAA clubs in Limerick. We were delighted they made it in time to see the final race as they raced from Aintree.
We would also like to wish Riverside Oscar all the best in his future races for his owners and trainers.
