Mungret St. Pauls 0-22 Glenroe 1-14
The Limerick Motor Centre sponsored Mungret St. Paul’s Premier Intermediate hurlers faced off against Glenroe on Saturday 5th September 2020 in Bruff in the Premier Intermediate semi final.
The teams spent the first few minutes finding their feet with the surface slippery for both. It was members of the Mungret St. Pauls half back line that kicked of their scoring with Liam Harrington and Brian Barry pointing from play. Glenroe picked off a few scores of their own from frees, hitting the Mungret St. Pauls net from play after 12 minutes. Mungret St. Pauls trailed 0-4 to 1-4 at the water break. Mungret St. Pauls started strong and Eoghan Mulcahy pointed twice from play. The Mungret St. Pauls full back line of Barry O’Grady, Ronan Kirby, Conor Flahive worked well as a unit but Glenroe punished the frees conceded and the gap remained at 3 points at half time, Mungret St. Pauls down 0-9 to 1-9.

It was the second half where Mungret St. Pauls game began to take a hold. Niall Mulcahy picked up 2 points from play in quick succession and Conor Hellewell became the final member of the Mungret St. Pauls half back line to score. Again the majority of Glenroe scores came from frees but Paul O’Brien responded with scores from placed balls of his own some of which from well within his own half. Conor O’Brien's puckouts paid off and primary possession put the Glenroe back line under pressure, Mungret St. Pauls worked their way into a lead of 0-17 to 1-13, out scoring Glenroe 8 points to 4 in the third quarter. Again Paul O’Brien’s accuracy from frees pinned Glenroe back and the big man Mike Mullins picked off some fine points drawing a roar from the small crowd in at attendance due to Covid restrictions. Mungret St. Pauls finished strongly with Rory Duff emerging time after time with the ball, driving the team home.
The game ended with a Mungret St. Pauls win, final score of 0-22 to 1-14. After falling at the semi final phase the last two years, we finally progress to the county final facing off against the familiar foe Kildimo Pallaskenry next weekend.
