Mungret St. Pauls 1-14 Garryspillane 1-19

The final group game of the u21 championship took place in Martinstown on 8th March with Garryspillane the opposition. Within the first 5 minutes, Mungret had the ball in the back of the Garryspillane net with a well taken finish by Seamie Hurley under some pressure by the keeper. Both teams struggled with accuracy shooting a number of wides from play. Garryspillane began to find their feet and picked off a few scores from play and frees. The Mungret full back line held strong with Conor Lynch, Conor Hellewell and Barry Duff cutting out any potential goal threats. Points from Brian O’Meara and Liam Lynch kept the sides close, however Garryspillane slotted 4 unanswered points before half time bringing a lead of 1-5 to 0-10 into the 2nd half.

Both teams exchanged scores during the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half but a goal from Garryspillane stretched their lead. It became increasingly difficult for Mungret’s  forwards to retain possession especially as the weather turned. Shane Barry and Kieran O’Dowd won a lot of ball in the Mungret half back line and scores from Dan Larkin and Paul O’Brien kept Mungret within touching distance but the gap never closed quite enough and some sloppy frees kept Garryspillane ahead until the end. Garryspillane were the better team in this battle of old foes on a final score of 1-19 to 1-14.
