Mungret St. Pauls 2-17, Ahane 1-15
Mungret St. Pauls U-21 championship campaign commenced in Ballybricken on Sunday 2nd February against Ahane. In this first round group game, our lads got off to a slow start and found themselves 5 points behind after 10 minutes. A well taken goal from Seamie Hurley into the right top corner began the Mungret challenge and closed the gap, however Ahane replied with a goal of their own almost instantly. Our backs began to get the upper hand with young Brian O’Meara winning some very good primary possession. Four unanswered points from Paul O’Brien and one from Liam Harrington brought us back in touch. Ahane lead 1-12 to 1-8 at half time.

Mungret St. Pauls emerged from the dressing room with renewed belief for the second half and Liam Lynch the youngest player on the pitch grabbed a point from play within the first minute, his first of four in the second half. Ahane returned with a few well taken scores of their own, but a strong 10 minute spell from Mungret St. Pauls culminating with a goal from Liam Harrington enabled us to open up a lead going in to the closing stages. Rory Duff and Conor Hellewell remained calm in possession and their experience led the team home to victory.
