The first Saturday in July saw 29 of our U12 Ladies footballers depart bright and early for a day of football and team bonding in Tralee. After a relatively uneventful bus journey the girls arrived at Na Gaeil GAA Club for the start of an eventful day!
First into action were the Regional Community Games team. The team, made-up entirely of 15 Mungret St. Pauls girls, were representing Limerick in a Munster semi-final against Moycarkey Borris representing Tipperary. After a fierce, end-to-end battle over four quarters the girls were really unfortunate to narrowly lose to what were a better team on the day. It was great to see our girls represent their county with such pride and distinction.
From there the bus departed for the marginally less serious part of the day – a trip to the Aqua Dome followed by a team meal in the Imperial Hotel. Let’s just say that the group threw themselves into these few hours with their customary enthusiasm!
Later in the afternoon 14 girls, who had not played earlier in the community games, played a challenge match against the local club, Na Gaeil. Despite flagging energy after a long, action-packed day the girls ran out as a winners after a tight game. And from there a very tired but happy bunch of girls (not to mention coaches & parents) departed for Mungret.
Overall, the day was a great way to wind up the first half of our season and enhance team spirit in advance of our two U12 teams facing into County quarter-finals in August. The interaction, team work and sheer sense of fun on display all day was a joy to behold. We are very lucky to be involved with such a fantastic group of young women.
Thanks are due to all the parents who travelled to support us with such enthusiasm on the day. A special word of thanks to Liz Morgan for putting a huge amount of effort into organising the whole day for the girls.
