Mungret St. Pauls 3-8 Na Piarsaigh 0-8

On a very wet evening in Rathbane on Tuesday 4 June our Junior B Footballers took on Na Piarsaigh in the City League final. The game had a very slow start with only 6 points scored between the two teams. The second half was where the football was played.

Na Piarsaigh opened the game but Mungret St. Pauls had equaled by the third minute. There followed a lot of off target shots from both sides. Na Piarsaigh came in strong to the Mungret St. Pauls backs but a quick hand to the ball saw the ball out for a 35 which Na Piarsaigh scored from. Mungret St. Pauls tried to score again but went wide, Na Piarsaigh pointed two in a row before Mungret St. Pauls finished the half with their second point of the game.

In the opening minutes of the second half Na Piarsaigh attacked the goals again but they were expertly denied but pointed the 35 that followed from it, they got in another point before Mungret St. Pauls replied with a fantastic goal, a 35 for Mungret St. Pauls was kicked short and worked up toward the goals to draw the game with a point. A point from play for Mungret St. Pauls and they were looking strong, in their next attack the ball was struck off the upright and back out to play, up the field to be saved again by the Mungret St. Pauls goalie. Na Piarsaigh pointed the 35 and scored the next point from play, unknown to everyone this was to the their last score as Mungret St. Pauls finished out the game with style. The second goal was scored just as Mungret St. Pauls needed the extra boost and with tensions high Mungret St. Pauls earned their next point. Na Piarsaigh saved an chance on the goal but Mungret St. Pauls did not give up and secured their next goal. They finished it off with 3 more points to end the games 3 goals in the lead.

The game was a lot closer than the result showed, Na Piarsaigh held the possession in the first half but were blocked down when they came close to the Mungret St. Paul backs, who were working well together. The Mungret St. Pauls mid fields played the ball well through out getting the ball moving in the right direction to the waiting forwards who did not fail to deliver.

The cup was awarded to captain, Kevin South at the end of the match.
