On Saturday last Mungret U13 footballers travelled to Tralee to participate in the Austin Stacks Lee Strand tournament. Mungret started with a tough game with Clontarf. Mungret came away with a one point win. Up next was Legion of Killarney who Mungret beat 8-9 to 1-2. Our final group game was a ten point win over John Mitchels Tralee. We then went on to play a much fancied Salthill of Galway in a the A semi final. Salthill were a very physical strong team but again Mungret playing some inspired football ran out 3-7 to 1-5 winners. This meant we were to travel back to Tralee on Sunday for an 11am throw in. Our opponents were Ballyboden St Enda's of Dublin were a strong physical side who put it up to our boys and after a highly competitive first half the score was 5-3 in Ballybodens favour. Unfortunately our exertions of the previous day started to take its toll and we struggled a bit in second half going down 3-7 to 5 points. Special mention to Tom Lloyd who was named man of the match. Overall it was a great achievement for this group to be runners up in the A final something that has not been done by Mungret in the past. A big thank you to all who supported the team over the two days and we can look forward to more success from this outstanding group of players.
