Doon did not use the strong winds advantage in the first half and Mungret St. Pauls kept a cool head and excelled in the second half in this heated game in Mungret on Wednesday 25 July.
Doon had a good start with 2 points before Mungret St. Pauls after 3 failed attempts pointed from their first free. Another point for Mungret St. Pauls had the game at a draw. A further 2 points each saw the teams level again. Mungret St. Pauls then took a lead in their next score, the ball was sent in the direction of the Mungret St. Pauls backs to be brilliantly saved by the goalie it was sent in the direction of a Doon player who failed to convert to a point. A free for Doon drew the game again just at the half time.
The second half start was similar to the first, each team going point for point with Mungret St. Pauls getting their 3 points from frees and Doons last point of the game was a chance on goal saved to a point. Mungret St. Pauls finished off the last quarter of the game in style starting with a well taken penalty, Doon tried again on goal but yet again the backs stood up to the challenge and sent the ball away. With 10 minutes left in the game Mungret St. Pauls had another go on goal and succeeded, 3 converted frees finished the game with Mungret St. Pauls winning and topping the group with one more game to play against Ahane on August 10. This was a well attended game which did not disappoint.
