The girls in St Nessans reached the city finals in U-13 and U-11 Football. The U-13 extended their play into extra time where Milford came out on top and the U-11 were second best to Monaleen.Well done to the girls in St. Pauls and Gaelscoil an Raithin who put everything they had into their games since September.
Three Mungret St. Pauls girls were on the Roxboro School team who won the East U13 cup.
Boys from the Mungret U12 Football squad were very active for their schools in the U13 Football championship in both the City and County over the past number of weeks. First up were St Pauls who played Gael Scoil An Raithin in the City U13B Final in the Gaelic Grounds. This was a pulsating game where the leading score changed many times. In the end, after a very exciting and hard fought victory St Paul’s, led by Brian Hassett came out victorious. Congratulations to all the players and mentors from both schools for a great game of football.
Next up was St Nessan’s National School who played Monaleen National School in the Gaelic Grounds in the U13 A City final last Wednesday. Mungret led from start to finish in a very close game of exciting football. The game produced some lovely fast flowing football from defence up to the forwards. In the end Mungret won by 5 points. The Cup was presented to captain, Diarmaid Hynes at the end of the game. St Nessan’s then qualified for the county semi-finals on the Friday in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale. St Nessan’s were up against Doon National School in the semi-final. These players met during the year at club level where only a point or two separated them. This game was no different in that both teams were very close in skill, strength and determination. St Nessan’s came out the stronger in wet and cold conditions and won by 5 points in the end. After a quick turn around and change into dry jersey’s St Nessan’s Mungret were up against a very strong Bruree National School, who defeated the previous champions in the semi-final. This was the closest game they played all year. The forwards took the early advantage and in the second half the defence withstood a determined fight back from Bruree to come out as County Champions by 2 points. At the end of the game captain, Diarmaid Hynes was presented with the County Shield.
