Mungret St. Pauls 0-18 Garryspillane 3-13
Mungret St. Pauls put a lot into this game got to touch the finish line but were unable to cross it while Garryspillane dominated in their backs and only had 3 wides through the game in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday 7 October.
A point a piece opened the game but Garryspillane soon took a lead with 2 frees pointed and an attempt on goals successful. Garryspillane were getting out onto the ball first leaving Mungret St. Pauls to work hard to take the ball back, they pointed another 3 before Garryspillane struck again on the goals bringing them 5 points in the lead. Mungret St. Pauls kept working on their score but every point was equaled by Garryspillane and a chance on goal denied.
The second half brought out a fighting Mungret St. Pauls team who sent over 4 unanswered points bringing the lead to the minimum. Garryspillanes first point of the second half came on the 10th minute with a run on the Mungret St. Pauls saw a great save followed on by our backs working together and sending the ball up the pitch where yet another free pointed brought them close again. Garryspillane drove it home with their final goal with an added point left them 6 points ahead. with the clock ticking Mungret St. Pauls pulled together and with 5 points in a row started to get the supporters encouragement. Unfortunately Garryspillane were to have the final say with a further 3 points to seal the win for them.
This was a tough loss for the players, mentors and club. We thank the players for all their hard work and expect to see those that move on out again at U-21, Junior and Premier Intermediate level.
