On Saturday 7 October, teams from Athenry, Galway; Doora Barefield, Clare; Éire Óg, Inis, Clare, Newtown Shandrum, Cork, Doon and Mungret St Pauls, Limerick competed in two groups of three to see who would come home with the fantastic Liam O’Donoghue Cup. All games across both groups were contested with great hurling from all players on show. Players demonstrated great team play, great striking for points, blocking, hooking, slide line cuts, short passes and goalkeeping. The top teams in both groups contested the A final for the Liam O’Donoghue Cup. This meant that Newtown Shandrum and Door Barefield played the A final. This was a cracking game of hurling with nothing between the teams. Newtown Shandrum came out winners by a couple of point. Kieran Murphy from Newtown Shandrum was named player of the tournament. In the B final Mungret St Pauls came out winners against Éire Óg, Inis. In the C final Athenry overcame Doon. Liam O’Donoghue presented the cups and player of the tournament to all the winning players.

Thanks to Helen and the catering parents who supplied the food and helped serve all the players, mentors and parents on the day. Thanks to Mark and Brian for the traffic management in the morning. A special thanks goes to Kieran O’Brien who organised the tournament and ensured that Mungret St Pauls hosted a great festival of hurling.
