Mungret St. Pauls 2-13 Camogue Rovers 3-9
Sunday 24 September is a day to go into the Mungret St. Pauls history books as the day one of our teams broke the bad spell at the Ballyagran pitch and won a match to bring them into the Junior B County Semi Final.
It was very sticky on the ground but it did not phase our players as they took on Camogue Rovers. While Mungret St. Pauls were shooting wide Camogue Rovers were on target with their first and third shot but 2 well taken frees had Mungret St. Pauls back in the game. Another target practice for both wided until a quick trek down the hill saw the sliotar shot to the back of the net before Camogue Rovers knew it was there. This lifted the players as a free for Mungret St. Pauls sent the sliotar well over the bar and into the next parish followed from another 2 from play Camogue Rovers were slow in their response with only 2 points, another 2 more frees pointed by Mungret St. Pauls had Mungret St. Pauls with a fine lead. Just before the half time whistle Camogue Rovers received 2 frees which they pointed to bring the half time score to 1-7 Mungret St. Pauls 0-8 Camogue Rovers.
Rebooted after the break Camogue Rovers came out on the pitch and headed straight for our goals to secure a tight game, a point a piece and then Camogue Rovers took advantage of the top speed down the hill and shot another sliotar into our goal to bring them ahead for the second time in the game. Mungret St. Pauls then seemed to struggle a bit not getting in a point until the 10th minute of the half but with Camogue Rovers sending shots wild from frees it gave Mungret St. Pauls a chance to breath and recoup to head up the pitch pass the ball onto the waiting player and rattle the net reclaiming the lead by 2 points.Camogue Rovers tried to come back but Mungret St. Pauls were quicker in their response sending the sliotar soaring over the bar. A last ditch attempt by Camogue Rovers to take the game was a valiant effort when they placed their third goal into our net to bring the game level, with only a minute left on the clock and Mungret St. Pauls in control of the puck out the everyone held their breath, the next hit on the sliotar had the final say on the game and went our way as it traveled up the pitch and over the bar with the whistle barley heard over the supporters and players shouts. Mungret St. Pauls now progress to the County Semi Final where they play Feohanagh on Sunday 8 October in the Bog Garden at 12pm
