Mungret St. Pauls 3-14 Doon 1-13
A game where simple mistakes were made and a laps in concentration was where Doon punished us on 27 July on our home pitch.
Both sides of the game started with a goal with Mungret St. Pauls claiming the first goal after sending the first ball wide of the uprights but followed with another point to Mungret St. Pauls. Doon did not sit back too long as they brought the score to a draw with a lot of hard work on the pitch. Mungret St. Pauls then got 3 more unanswered points until Doon received a scoring free. Doon kept the pressure on and a big tussle at the Mungret St. Pauls goal mouth eventually saw the ball out the field only to be sent back over the bar for Doon. Mungret St. Pauls sent a few balls wide but kept pushing for another goal which was expertly saved by the Doon goalie. 4 of the last points in this half were a result of frees (3 for Mungret St. Pauls). Half time had Mungret St. Pauls on the up side 1-9 to 0-8.
The game was swiftly restarted with Doon taking the sliotar and slamming it into the back of the net. This quickly woke the Mungret St. Pauls team up as Doon kept sending ball in but each time it was saved by our goalie until it went down the pitch and made use of. Doon sent another ball into their forward which was directed into the goal only for the ref to declare a square ball, this goal would of left Mungret St. Pauls on the back foot, to make sure they held the lead Mungret St. Pauls struck a point either side of their second goal but Mungret St. Pauls seemed to need a breather as they handed Doon 3 frees in a row all pointed.
The game ended uneventful as frees dictated the final score and soft balls send to both goalies.
There are 2 more games left for Mungret St. Pauls against Adare and Garryspillane.
