Mungret St. Pauls 3-10 St. Kierans 4-7
Monday 24 July saw our U-16 footballers at home for their sixth time facing the team on top of the table it was going to be one of the toughest challenges. Mungret St. Pauls came out of the blocks strong sending the ball to the forwards but it went wide and sent the length of the pitch for a St. Kierans point, Mungret St. Pauls followed with a point on target. St. Kierans added another 2 points and then Mungret St. Pauls tried many attempts on goal but there was no getting past St. Kierans backs and Mungret St. Pauls took the point in the end. St. Kierans followed this up with their own point. Mungret St. Pauls claimed the lead when the ball was sent to the top right corner of the St. Kierans net, a second attempt on goal was sent as a point by the goalie. St. Kierans then took the lead back when they placed the ball in the back of our net. Mungret St. Pauls were tough and were holding posession of the ball but after 2 wides the third went over to draw the game for half time.
The second part of the game was full of goals with the ball on point. Mungret St. Pauls struck 2 goals and a point before St. Kierans struck the net for their second goal. 3 additional points from Mungret St. Pauls brought them into the lead with 7 points. A change of players seemed to brought a laps in concentration to the Mungret St. Pauls play and St. Kierans took hold of the game and poped in their third and forth goal, the game was a draw until St. Kierans shot for a point, with the pressure on, Mungret St. Pauls walked the ball up the pitch and brought the game to a draw again before the full time whistle.
