On Sunday last we played the fancied Fr. Casey’s in the Feile county final after winning our semi-final against Oola, played in Monaleen peafied pitch, and winning our group matches against Drom/Broadford and Monagea in Mungret on Saturday morning. Our girls knew that Fr. Casey’s was going to be their toughest challenge of the weekend. After a dynamic battle against a superbly skilled team, Fr Casey’s ran out as the well-deserved winners’ They now go on to represent Limerick later this year. Our Mungret St Pauls girls showed great skill and determination in all their games over the weekend and provided great entertaining matches for all the spectators.
Our semi-final was a tightly fought game vs Oola. Our midfield and back line won every ball that came into their area making it difficult for Oola to play their game. Their strong midfield was unable to shake off our determined midfield players who defiantly blocked all advances towards our goal. The game went down to the wire with a final point scored in the dying minutes to clinch the win for Mungret St Pauls.
On Saturday Mungret St Pauls hosted the West Group 1 of Feile on our main pitch with Drom/Broadford and Monagea. First up was a game vs Drom/Broadford. The match was close contest with Mungret St Pauls having the lead at half time. The second half saw Drom/Broadford shift up a gear and netted two quick goals. But thereafter the Mungret resilient defence line limited their opportunities. The win was eventually sealed with great scores by our excellent forwards who, with great composure and skill, took their scores.
Our next game was against Monagea with the winner taking the place in the semi-final in Monaleen. Mungret headed onto the field with nothing but a win on their minds. We took the early lead with a great combination of scores. Our girls did not let the ball out of their possession with Monagea having no answer to our outstanding play.
Our thanks to the club for the use of the main pitch. All teams appreciated playing on such a good pitch given the recent waether. Also thanks to all partent for providing food and helping out with the refreshements in the clubhouse after the games. The ladies and parents of Drom/Broadford and Monage may have left without the grup win they were seeking but complimented our hospitality.
Hard luck to our U-12 who lost to Dromin/Banogue/Athlacca in Mungret last Friday evening at the start of a busy weekend for our club. On Sunday evening our Minors faced St. Brigids in the league B semi-final. Both teams finished some great moves with excellent scores. St Brigids’ ability to find the net told with a scoreline of 4-09 to 1-16 at the final whistle. On Monday evening our U-16s travelled to Doon to play Oola, with both teams fielding many of the Feile teams for the previous day. Oola were in control of the game from the start but found it difficult to take all their chance in the breezy conditions. A spirited performance by Mungret St Pauls forced Oola to bring their U-16 county players back on to the field for them to close out the game with the win.
