Southside Gaels 0-14 Mungret St Pauls 2-13
On a breezy but sunny Sunday the U-21 hurlers traveled to Rebhogue for the City East Final against the amalgamated team of Claughan, Old Christians and St. Patrick's known as Southside Gaels. This was a slow starting match with not much score being recorded, with a lot of missed opportunities the boys seemed to be still settling into the game until the first changing point of the game when the sliotar was struck perfectly to the back of the Gaels goal. This was a needed boost to both the score and the team. Half time finished with Mungret St. Pauls having a slight edge 1-6 Mungret St. Pauls to 0-7 Southside Gaels.
Mungret St. Pauls started the second half with the slight wind and were the first to add to their score. The Gaels stepped their game up and drew even with Mungret St. Pauls but this did not last long as the Mungret boys put everything they had into the game and took the chance of a second goal. It became clear Mungret St. Pauls were not letting their guard down as Southside Gales tried to go for goals but were denied at every chance. The final whistle saw joint captains Chris Dunford and Cian O'Brien accept the cup. Well done to the players, mentors, parents and supporters. We will see more of this team as they progress to the county.
